The land of Israel was blessed with many beautiful places many of which are sacred to the three monotheist religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Sites in Israel that are sacred to the Christians include the famous Jordan River , Sea of Galilee, Nazeret and many sites in Jerusalem. For that reason Christian believers come to Israel to pay a visit to these places where Jesus walked and lived.
Other sites in Israel are sacred to the Muslims, such as Al-Aqsa Mosque. Al-Mosque is Islam's third holiest site, located in the Old City of Jerusalem.
In the Jewish faith, the land of Israel is perceived as the Promised Land . According to the Bible, book of Genesis, God has promised Abraham the land of Canaan, to him and his descendents: " And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God" (Book of Genesis, 17:8).
Jerusalem lies at the heart of the Jewish faith, as expressed in the famous proclaim "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither, let my tongue cleave to my palate if I do not remember you" (book of Psalms, 137: 5-6).
The Wailing Wall also known as Western Wall or the HaKotel is both a religious and an historical site. In 1967 War, the Wailing Wall was liberated by the Israeli Defense forces. Since then, Hundreds of thousands of Jewish believers visit this holy site from across Israel and the world.
The great and wise King Solomon built the First Temple in Jerusalem more than 2,000 years ago. This holy Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians leaving only the Wailing Wall intact. After the second temple was built the Wailing Wall has survived the destruction of the second temple as well. Since then, the Wailing Wall has become a symbol for divine protection.
